Autographa ampla (Walker [1858])

Common name: Listed here as 'Brown-patched looper moth.'

Hodges #: 8923.

Identification: Rfw 16.8 mm, fw stigma greatly reduced, median area contrasting chocolate brown.  Tibiae without spiniform setae.

Similar species: 9496

Distribution: southern Canada and northern United States, southward in the Rockies and Appalachians.

Hosts: Larvae have been reported on woody plants: Alnus spp. (alders), Amerlacher spp. (service-berry), Betula spp. (birch), Populus tremuloides Michx (Trembling aspen), P. balsamifera L. (Balsam poplar), Prunus spp. (cherry), and Shepherdia canadensis (L.) Nutt.  (Soap berry)
