- Doğan Çömez
Doğan Çömez is a Professor of Mathematics who earned his Ph.D. at the
University of Toronto in 1983. He has been in NDSU since 1985. He is
currently the department chair of the Mathematics department. He has given
mathematical talks for the 4-H Club, the Kiwanis Club, and the North
Dakota Governor’s School. He is a leading advocate for departmental
programs aimed to attract students to Science and Mathematics. He is
currently the Director of the GraSUS Program, that places graduate
students in local high schools.
- William Martin
Bill Martin is a professor of mathematics
education and currently heads the NDSU School of Education. A former
high school math and geography teacher, he has been a faculty member at
NDSU in the Department of Mathematics and the School of Education since
1995. His research interests are in the teaching and learning of high
school and undergraduate mathematics and assessment of the lasting
effects of mathematics instruction. Bill has been active in a number of
grants focused on STEM education and is an active member of mathematics
organizations including the NDCTM, where he served as newsletter editor
for 12 years, NCTM, MAA and AMS.
- Mohamed Baghzali
Mohamed Baghzali came to the United States in 1989 from Morocco and went to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he graduated 1993 with a Bachelors degree in both
Math and Physics.
He received his Master of Science degree (mathematics) from North Dakota State University in 2001, where he studied delay differential equations.
He has been a lecturer in the math department at NDSU since 2001, where his teaching
load has covered College Algebra, Finite Math, Trigonometry, Applied Calculus I
and II, and Basic Linear Algebra.
- Maxx
Kureczko
Maxx Kureczko is a lecturer in mathematics department at North
Dakota State
University, having just
moved to Fargo from Albuquerque, New Mexico in August 2010. In 2007, he
received a Bachelors degree in mathematics with a
minor in biology, and in 2010, a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Applied
mathematics, both from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and
Technology in
Socorro, New Mexico. As a lecturer, graduate student, teacher, and tutor, Maxx
has enjoyed teaching and has been interested in math education
at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

- Andy Braaten- Carrington High School
Andy is a graduate of Mayville State University with majors in Math and
Chemistry. He has taught in Carrington for 27 years, the first 17 being
only science with the last 10 being half math and half science. Classes
taught include Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, Earth Science,
College Algebra, Algebra II, Advanced Math, Senior Math and Pre Calculus.
The College Algebra and Pre Calculus classes are offered as a dual credit
course from Lake Region State College. Andy has worn many coaching hats
as well at Carrington including baseball, track, football and basketball
along with advising math track meet and science olympiad teams. Helping
students enjoy the learning of math is important to him. Andy is married
to his wife Ruth, and they have 2 daughters, Noelle and Nikki.
- Fiona Brendemuhl-
Cheney Middle School
Fiona Brendemuhl is from Moorhead, MN. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1994, and then attended Moorhead State University earning B.S. and B.A. degrees in
Mathematics and Mathematics Education. She completed her master's degree in Mathematics Education at St. Cloud State University. She has taught math for thirteen years:
six years at Litchfield (MN) High School, one year at Moorhead High School, and the past six years at Cheney Middle School in West Fargo (8th grade).
In addition to teaching, Fiona is the Student Council Advisor at Cheney and the coach of the MathCounts team.
She resides in Moorhead with her husband and two children, ages five and three. She enjoys the teaching middle school mathematics, and incorporating problem solving on a regular basis with her students.
- Jon Labrensz-
Shanley High School
Jon Labrensz is from Glyndon, MN. He graduated from DGF in 2002 and attended Concordia
College where he earned his B.A. in Mathematics Education with a minor in Classical
Studies. He is currently working on his master’s in Mathematics Education. He has taught
math for 5 years, all at Shanley High School in Fargo. He has taught Pre-Calculus,
Consumer Math, Probability and Statistics, and currently teaches Algebra 2 and AP
Calculus. In addition to teaching he coaches the Chess Club, the High School Challenge
team, the Tri-College Math team, and also is the building chair for the school
accreditation team.
He lives in Moorhead, MN with his wife, Erin, and 7 month old daughter Whitney. He enjoys
teaching mathematics because math is what ties everything else together.
- Patsy Schlosser-
Edgeley High School
Patsy graduated from North Dakota State University in 1987 with a degree in Mathematics education and a minor
in physical science and has been teaching for 25 years with the past 20 years in Edgeley High School. Patsy has
taught Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, precalculus, and physics most of her career. She received the Presidential
Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching in 2003. In 2011 she became a National Board Certified Teacher for
Mathematics/Adolescence and Young Adulthood. Helping students to see the beauty and usefulness of mathematics has
been a joy. Patsy is married to Neal and has three daughters.
