2011Our 2011 summer workshop was a great success. It was our first, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. We had 25 middle school and high school teachers from across North Dakota come to Fargo to join us, to learn and grow as secondary-level math teachers. This year, the focus was on the areas of geometry and probability/ statistics. We were impressed with, but not surprised by, the dedication and enthusiasm these teachers showed for their profession. The fact that they were there, during their summer off, for two full weeks was proof enough. But the conservations, the ideas, the stories and the work that the teachers shared with us was nothing short of fantastic. Several said they felt re-energized as teachers and were looking forward to implementing the ideas they learned in their classrooms in the fall. It was a great way to network, as well. Teachers that work in rural schools often tell us that it's hard or impossible to collaborate with other math teachers in the area, as there often aren't any (sometimes, in these rural schools, one teacher is the entire math department). Now we all have a great list contacts that we feel we can email at any time to share ideas, concerns, and experiences. In the end, we all learned a great deal from one another and look forward to our future meetings (don't forget, the first one is in September). Below, you will find pictures and other activities and resources from our workshop.Below are links to some pictures from our 2011 workshop.
