2024 Exam 1 Grading Key

Note on prerequisites: Since the target audience of this class is both biological and computational scientists, we have structured the prerequisites to meet those types of students. Yet it is important that to understand that we will not repeat what has been taught in a General Biology course. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to review the following topics:

  • DNA structure and regulation
  • RNA transcription and post-transcriptional processing
  • Protein translation and post-translational modification
  • Basic amino acid and protein structure
  • Controlling factors in gene expression
  • Mendelian genetics theory
  • Evolution via natural selection

You should go back to a Biology textbook that is used in a freshman-level biology course and become thoroughly familiar with the depth of detail in such a textbook. If these topics were not covered as completely in your course as in the textbook, it is your responsibility to study and reach that level of knowledge.

MASKING IN A CLASSROOM SETTING: As of August 23, all participants in a classroom, including those who are fully vaccinated, are required to wear a face covering. If you fail to properly wear a face covering, you will not be admitted to the classroom. Students who cannot wear a face covering due to a medical condition or disability, or who are unable to remove a mask without assistance may seek an accommodation through the Disability Services (701-231-8463; https://www.ndsu.edu/disabilityservices/). In accordance with NDSU Policy 601, failure to comply with instructions, including the mask requirement, may be handled according to the Code of Student Conduct resolution process and may result in disciplinary sanctions.

PLEASE NOTE: Any student with disabilities or who needs special accommodations in this course is invited to share these concerns or requests with the instructor as soon as possible.

PLEASE NOTE: All work in this course must be completed in a manner consistent with NDSU University Senate Policy, Section 335: Code of Academic Responsibility and Conduct (http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/policy/335.htm). In addition, the student must adhere to the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Honor System (http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/colag/honor.htm).
