I have been an Associate Editor for Elsevier's Microelectronics Journal, Journal of Circuits, Systems, and Computers, and Mobile Computing. I have served as track chair for IEEE International SoC Conference 2014 , International Green Computing Conference 2014 , and IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology 2016. I have been also served in technical program committees for IEEE and other international conferences, including IEEE International SoC Conference, IEEE International Conference on Solid-State and Integrated Circuit Technology (ICSICT), IEEE International Conference on Cloud Networking (CloudNet) Conference, International Symposium on Cloud Computing (CCA), and ASEE North Midwest Section Conference.
I am the Chair for IEEE Red River Valley Section and faculty advisor for NDSU IEEE student section . I am also the Co-Chair in Women in Research (WIR) at NDSU. I am a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), IEEE, and IEEE Circuit and System Society.
Recent Update
[New!] IMPACT Lab is looking for highly motivated graduate students and undergraduate students to join our exciting research projects. All students admitted to our group receive full financial support. In particular, two openings are available now: (1) a PhD student opening in data mining/machine learning/embedded vision and (2) a PhD/MS student opening in embedded system. If you apply for PhD program, master degree and relative research experience are requied in the following areas - data mining/machine learning/embedded vision/computer science (for position 1), embedded system/ECE/computer science (for position 2). Please email me or drop by my office to discuss.
[11/2017] Our paper on psychology-based viewer-aware video memory has been accepted for publication in IEEE Trans. on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems (TVLSI).
[10/2017] We traveled to two North Dakota tribal colleges - Cankdeska Cikana Community College (CCCC) on Sept. 17 and Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) on Oct. 15 - to teach computing-related Sunday Academy lessons to 26 Native American Indian high-school students. Sunday Academy is an NSF-funded program designed to generate interest in math, science and engineering among the American Indian high school students. (see our Outreach page)
[09/2017] Our paper on data-informed intelligent efficient synaptic storage for deep learning has been accepted for publication in IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems II. Congratulations, Jonathon, Yifu, and Dongliang!
[08/2017] Our paper on big-data driven intelligent self-recovery video memory has been accepted for publication in IEEE Trans. on Big Data. Congratulations, Jonathon, Dongliang, and Yifu!
[06/2017] Dr. Gong is leading “Intelligent Computing Circuits and Systems” Sunday Academy lessons and will travel to 5 ND tribal colleges for outreach with Native high-school students in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. Sunday Academy is a NSF-funded program designed to generate interest in math, science and engineering among the American Indian high school students.

[04/2017] IMPACT Lab organized two Expanding Your Horizons Workshops "Girls in Engineering", as a part of 38th Annual Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) Conference. EYH is a nationwide organization that holds regional conferences for young women in grades 7-9 to encourage and develop their career interests in STEM. During the two workshops, we worked with 36 girls from different rural high schools in North Dakota and introduced various research projects to them, such as wireless sensor network, embedded vision, intelligent video storage system, and UAV. (see our Outreach page).
[03/2017] Our paper on "Bringing Offline Mining to Online Learning System: Low-Cost and Efficient Self-Healing Synaptic Storage for Deep Learning" has been accepted for Lecture presentation at ISCAS'17 as Late Breaking News. Congratulations, Jonathon, Yifu, and Dongliang!
[02/2017] Our project on embedded vision has been funded by the ND Department of Commerce.
