COMM 313: Grammar Exercise One

Chase and change the common grammar errors in these phrases. You may also find an occasional typo, AP style error, or commonly misspelled word from the sneaky word list. Some sentences may be correct; others may have more than one error. Note: don't add quote marks to paraphrases!

1. The local engineering firm now employs three students that work twenty hours a week to update the company web site.

2. We taxied the plane to the hanger but discovered that it was too small too accommodate a twin-engine Cessna.

3. Tom won the lottery, but its a secret. If you truely need to know, he'll be dividing his winnings between the three of us.

4. Its better to give than to recieve but Darcy found no takers for her bluishgreen polyester tube top.

5. You're coaching won't have an affect on the team unless you keep more careful control of their weekly game statistics.

6. Your a woman of principle, but still, the principle rule of this company is to always tell the truth.

7. Thirsty after a hot day at the beach, a cool iced tea really refreshed Randall.

9.   The month of Feb. it seems to me should be warmer than this.

10. Feeling dizzy and harrassed from stray wombats, Ann laid down for a minute.

11. This survey indicates alot of students put this semesters tuition on there parents credit card.

12. Knock, knock. Whose there?

13. The director has they're research proposals, but the data shows a need for more government funding.
