A video on the use and maintenance of old grocery bags as weed barrier fabric for trees is available from the North Shoeshoe State Extension Service.

"The video explains annual weed barrier maintenance requirements when used in tree plantings", says Linda Root, NSSU County Extension agent. "We are hoping people will reuse their old plastic bags in useful ways, instead of filling up the landfill.

Various methods for removing the wed barrier are explained in the video, which also shows examples of potential damage that can occur in weed barrier plantings that are not maintained or left around the trees to long. Alternative tree care methods are detailed in the video, as well as how to care for the soil between the rows of trees.

The video is available at www.ag.nssu.edu/weedcontrol.

The video was produced by the NSSU Research Extension Center and NSSU Agriculture Communication Department.
