The Left Heart
The left atrium receives blood
from the pulmonary veins.
The left atrio-ventricular valve is
the mitral valve. It prevents blood from flowing back into the atrium when
the ventricle contracts.
The aortic valve is positioned
where the aorta leaves the left ventricle. It prevents blood from
flowing back into the vantricle when it is filling with blood from
the atrium.
The left
ventricle pumps blood to all the body,
except the lungs, through the aorta.
