The Nephron
The nephrons are where most of the work of
the kidney takes place. They are very tiny and range in number from
about 200,000 per kidney in a cat to several million per kidney in
cattle. Each consists of a filtering unit, the renal
corpuscle, and a system of tubules that work with the surrounding
capillary network to process the filtrate into urine.
