Lifeguard Course Requirements
Prerequisites:
1. Swim 300 yards continuously (free or breaststroke)
2. Tread water for two minutes using only legs
3. Complete a timed event in one minute and 40 seconds, swim 15 yards front crawl, remove a 10 pound brick off of the bottom of a 10 foot pool section, swim on your back and only kicking with the brick for 15 yards. Must be completed on the first night of class to continue with the course.
*Candidates must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled class session of the course. The candidate must also complete a set of swimming prerequisites.
*Red Cross certifications upon successful completion include: Lifeguard Training/CPR/AED/First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens
*Appropriate swim attire is required to practice multiple in-water rescues.
Water Safety Instructor Course Requirements
Prerequisites:
Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
1. Swim the following strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4:
- Front Crawl - 25 yards
- Back Crawl - 25 yards
- Breaststroke - 25 yards
- Elementary Backstroke - 25 yards
- Sidestroke - 25 yards
- Butterfly - 15 yards
2. Tread water for one minute. Maintain position on back for one minute in deep water (floating or sculling).
*Must be completed on the first night of class to continue with the course.
*Candidates must be 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled class session of the course.
*Red Cross certifications upon successful completion include: WSI Certification
*Appropriate swim attire is required to practice multiple in-water sessions.
*Nine hours worth of online training must be completed prior to the class start date
