Introducing Agustin
Please meet Agustin, a new member of the CREC staff. We asked Agustin to write his own introduction, so let’s get to know him better, together.
Hello!
I’m Agustin San Pedro, a new Research Specialist on the Carrington REC Agronomy Team. My wife, Michaela, and I moved to Carrington from Chile in October 2024. I have a solid foundation in agricultural research and a passion for advancing sustainable farming practices, and I look forward to contributing my skills and expertise to the exciting work ahead.
Before joining NDSU and the CREC, I was employed in a couple of agricultural research roles in Chile. Most recently, I served as a Principal Investigator and Study Director at Eurofins, where I was responsible for planning, executing, and reporting on studies related to pesticide residues (Good Laboratory Practices) in agricultural crops for registration purposes. I also conducted efficacy trials for crop protection products, which deepened my expertise in field-based agricultural trials.
Prior to Eurofins, I worked with Bayer Crop Science as a Field Agronomist Assistant. I conducted trials across a range of crops, including fruit orchards, vegetables, and cereals. These trials focused on evaluating new agro-industrial products and expanding product labels.
Academically, I hold a Master's in Horticulture and a degree in Agronomy, both from the University of Talca in Chile. My master’s thesis focused on the sorption and desorption of phosphorus in soils of my region. Additionally, I contributed to research abroad, including a project at Georg-August Universität Göttingen in Germany, where I evaluated suberin content in the root tissues of hydroponic crops under phosphorus stress.
Along with hands-on fieldwork, my academic and research experience gives me a broad understanding of soil management, crop nutrition, and crop protection strategies. As part of the CREC team, I am excited to apply this knowledge to research projects focused on improving agricultural practices, supporting sustainability, and developing innovative solutions for modern agriculture in North Dakota.
I am especially excited to work at a research extension center, where science and farming grow together. The opportunity to see research directly applied to real-world farming practices is incredibly motivating, and I look forward to bridging the gap between the lab and the field.
I remain passionate about exploring new advancements in agronomy and strengthening the connection between science and nature. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues, sharing ideas, and contributing to the ongoing success of the Carrington REC. If you’d like to connect or learn more about my research interests, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always open to new collaborations and discussions!
Thank you for welcoming me aboard, and I’m excited for the journey ahead!
