I am a Professor in the Department of Biosystematics at the University of Opole. My research concentrates on the systematics of the Pentatomoidea, especially the morphology, taxonomy, classification, and phylogeny of the Cydnidae and related families (the so called “cydnoid-complex”). For a long time, much of my research has focused on the taxonomy of the family Cydnidae; During my revisional studies I have described and named about 200 new taxa of the Cydnidae (more than 180 new species and about 20 new genera). I have revised also the Cydnidae in the Oriental region and prepared a catalogue of the Old World Cydnidae. At present I concentrate on comparative studies of different structures in Cydnidae and related families trying to evaluate their significance for the taxonomy, phylogeny and classification of the Cydnidae and the whole “cydnoid-complex”, as well (including projects with Dominique Pluot-Sigwalt of Paris, and Carl W. Schaefer of Connecticut). All these studies aim in the reclassification of the family.

I am also interested in the taxonomy and morphology of Dinidoridae, and I study the Heteroptera fauna of Poland, as well.

Moreover, I am a leader of the team working on the Heteroptera at the University (the largest team in Poland): Anna Kocorek (Dinidoridae), Barbara Lis (Cimicomorpha, esp. Tingoidea; faunistics of Poland), Anna Hohol-Kilinkiewicz (Tingidae, Anthocoridae, Cydnidae), Joanna Czaja (Scutelleridae, Cydnidae), Grzegorz Hebda (faunistics of Poland).

1) Morphological diversity of the spermatheca among Cydnidae (Heteroptera) and its bearing on the classification of the family (with Dominque Pluot-Sigwalt).

2) Comparative studies on the coxal combs in the Cydnidae and related families (with Carl W. Schaefer).

3) Comparative studies on the tarsus and pretarsal structures in the Cydnidae and related families.

4) External morphology of the abdominal lateral sclerites of the Cydnidae (with Anna Hohol-Kilinkiewicz of my Department).

5) Comparative studies of the male and female genitalia in the Cydnidae.

6) A revision of the genus Geopeltus from New Caledonia, with new data on distribution and biology (with Geoff Monteith).
