NDSU hosts Marvin campus visit
NDSU hosted representatives from Marvin for a day of exploration and discovery.

NDSU recently hosted Marvin, a leading manufacturer of windows and doors and a premier university partner, for an afternoon of connection and educational sessions. This visit provided an opportunity for the fifth-generation Marvin family to learn more about the partnership and explore the shared commitment to innovation and collaboration.
The event featured engaging sessions led by the College of Engineering and the College of Business, showcasing the various ways in which Marvin and NDSU work together to enhance student learning and career opportunities. Engineering faculty presented an overview of the Offerdahl ‘65 Engineering Complex, which included renderings, and facilitated lab activities centered on sustainable composites and drop testing. Business faculty talked about experiential learning opportunities and hosted an engaging lecture simulation.
“My wife, Kate, and I were truly impressed by the hospitality and pride at Marvin HQ during our visit to Warroad. We strived to return that support with a warm Bison welcome, making the Marvin family feel at home here at NDSU,” said NDSU President David Cook. “We believe the future of higher education is about partnerships and Marvin is a perfect example of what’s possible when great minds and shared values come together.”
The collaboration between Marvin and NDSU encompasses a variety of academic engagement and student development initiatives, including guest lectures, case study competitions, senior capstone projects and K-12 outreach programs like Upward Bound and STEM career days. This long-standing partnership not only provides students with hands-on experiences that prepare them for successful careers but also helps Marvin cultivate a strong talent pipeline.
Additionally, Marvin's philanthropic support, including endowments, named scholarships and contributions to capital projects like the Richard Offerdahl ’65 Engineering Complex, has further strengthened this valuable relationship.
“Today’s visit is very important as it highlights the synergy between Marvin and NDSU. It's wonderful to come to campus and experience hands-on learning firsthand,” said Paula Heppner, owners council advisor for Marvin. “This not only broadens our horizons but also emphasizes the significance of these touchpoints. Collaboration like this enriches our growth and success as organizations.”
At the conclusion of the visit, members of the Marvin family were asked to describe the Marvin-NDSU partnership in one word. Their responses included "collaborative," "impactful," "synergistic" and "valuable," reflecting the essence of this meaningful relationship.
The visit highlights Marvin’s commitment to understanding and nurturing the business's legacy while encouraging collaboration with NDSU. The partnership not only benefits students but contributes to the broader community, paving the way for a brighter future.
