Move-in Day: ‘It is a great day to be a Bison’

Moving in before the first day of the new school year is a memorable and fun experience. NDSU makes sure Bison pride is on full display for incoming students and their families.

“NDSU Move-in Day is one of the most exciting days of the year—the energy is electric,” said Tara Ferkinhoff, assistant director for marketing for Residence Life and Dining. “Students, staff, faculty and alumni are on-campus and ready to welcome our newest Bison to the herd. Plus, there are a ton of things happening throughout the day. Offices are open for questions and tours, Dining is open and ready to serve, the Goldstar Marching Band playing will make their first appearance of the year and you might even see President Cook cruising campus in a golf cart, handing out cold water to students and guests. It is a great day to be a Bison.”

Angelica Pfremmer, a senior strategic communication major, vividly remembers her Move-in Day experience.

While she was nervous about moving away from home, all the warm welcomes when she arrived on campus made the nerves disappear.

“I felt welcomed on campus immediately due to the energy of the Move-In Crew,” Pfremmer said. “My first interaction was with one of the crew members when we first arrived. She helped my family unload our car and pointed us in the right direction. I remember feeling like I was arriving to summer camp, and everyone was excited to begin.”

Pfremmer said she was also nervous about meeting her roommate for the first time, though spending the day together and getting to know one another is among Pfremmer’s top memories.

“I went on a short walk around campus with my roommate and we got familiar with each other, talked about our class schedule and about how we get to spend the next semester here,” she said. “That was one of my favorite Move-in Day moments because all I felt was excitement.

“It also helped that there were events already planned, such as meeting our resident advisor with our hall floor and then doing group activities. My roommate and I weren't able to meet in person before moving in, but by the end of the day I was ready to tell her all my secrets.”

Pfemmer’s quick advice: “Always remember that your roommate is starting the same experience you are.”
