Dennis Cooley, NDSU professor of philosophy and ethics and director of the Northern Plains Ethics Institute, was recently featured in an article on The Atlantic.
In the article, which centers on AI and death, Cooley shared his thoughts on the ethical concerns with someone using AI to train a chatbot off a dead person’s voicemails, emails and texts, along with the theoretical question of whether an AI version of a person would count as a person.
Cooley has published several books and articles on the topic of death and ethics.
Cooley’s area of specialization includes ethics (applied and theoretical bioethics, business, environmental, agricultural, medical and professional ethics), as well as history of modern philosophy. He teaches classes on contemporary moral issues; business ethics; ethics, engineering and technology; philosophy of law and literature; and aesthetics.
