NDSU senior Alex Huber won the North Dakota Farm Bureau Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, during the 82nd NDFB Annual Meeting at the Bismarck Hotel and Convention Center on Nov. 22-23 in Bismarck.
Huber was one of four contestants competing in the meet. The other contestant from NDSU was Samual Green. The two contestants from Dickinson State University Collegiate Farm Bureau were Paul Hanebutt and Sydney Ellingson.
Huber is studying agricultural economics and animal science. He grew up on a farm and ranch near Jud, North Dakota and plans to return home after college.
"Huber is an outstanding student and Farm Bureau member,” said Alisha Nord-Donnelly, advisor for NDSU Collegiate Farm Bureau. “Being a senior, it has been fun to watch him grow and become engaged in policy development and education."
The NDFB Collegiate Discussion Meet offers a unique chance for individuals to engage in constructive discussions on important agricultural topics, much like actual committee meetings. Participants exchange ideas and information on a predetermined agricultural issue, showcasing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This experience helps them build fundamental discussion skills, gain a deeper understanding of agricultural matters, and explore the power of collaborative knowledge sharing to achieve consensus and solve problems.
Huber will travel to Denver, Colorado, for the American Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet during the AFBF FUSION Conference in March of 2025.
