The NDSU chapter of Golden Key Honour Society recently received several awards.
Sarah Anderson, a second-year professional student in pharmacy from Bismarck, N.D., received the Region 6 Student Leader of the Year award. She has served as the executive vice president, president and vice president of finance for NDSU’s Golden Key chapter.
NDSU alumna Bonnie Cooper, BS ’96, MA ’98, speech communication, serves as the chapter adviser. She writes and edits the chapter’s newsletter, which received second place in the North Dakota professional Communicators 2013 communication contest. The newsletter gave an overview of the chapter’s participation with Read for the Record, an annual nationwide event that works to promote literacy and to break a reading record. Also, the speech Cooper gave for the University of North Dakota’s 2012 induction ceremony received first place in the Speeches category. The address, “Involvement is the Key to Success,” told attendees their participation in a variety of activities will lead to unexpected opportunities and rewarding experiences.
In addition, the NDSU chapter was recognized in June for being a Gold-level chapter, the highest level possible, for the ninth consecutive year. On August 20, the chapter was notified it was one of 28 North American chapters to receive a 2013 Key Chapter Award.
Golden Key International Honour Society was founded in 1977 at Georgia State University. Students in the top 15 percent of their respective classes are invited to join annually. The society has more than 400 chapters in Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Canada, the Virgin Islands, Malaysia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, India and the United States. The NDSU chapter was chartered in 1996.
NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
