SHARE

NDSU students now have free access to Read & Write Gold, an innovative literacy software that supports reading fluency and comprehension, writing, studying and research.

The software is designed to help individuals of all ages, abilities and learning styles, with tools including:

  • text-to-speech
  • a phonetic spell checker
  • concept mapping tools
  • a word prediction tool that learns the writer’s style to predict the word they may want to use next
  • a tool to record and add audio notes to a document
  • and a study skills tool for highlighting and extracting text from any document or Web page to easily create study guides and outlines.

The customizable, easy-to-use toolbar seamlessly integrates with common applications including Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe Reader, and Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer Web browsers.

Students, faculty and staff can access the software on Windows computers in instrumented classrooms and clusters, and they have the option to install the software for free on personal computers and NDSU-owned computers.

Read & Write Gold for Mac or Windows also is available as a self-contained application that runs on a USB flash drive. For your convenience, USB flash drives are available to purchase for $12 from the vending machine outside the Technology Learning and Media Center. Staff in the center will install the free software on your USB drive.
