Finding capital and the right investor can be key to launching a successful start-up business. An area investment expert is set to provide insight into finding capital during a seminar at NDSU.
James Burgum, co-founder and managing partner of Arthur Ventures LLC, is scheduled to give an innovation presentation titled “Show Me the Money with Angel Investing” Tuesday, March 4, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Century Theater. Bring your own brown bag lunch. The event is free and open to the public.
Burgum will discuss what angel investors are looking for in an investment and what they consider when investing in a start-up. Learn firsthand from an experienced investor and discover what it takes to quickly raise the capital needed to grow and build a start-up business.
Burgum previously was president of Advenio Partners LLC, a small private equity firm that invested in turnaround projects as well as regional seed and early-stage investments. He worked at the North Dakota Trade Office, where his work with that team increased North Dakota’s annual exports 225 percent to more than $2 billion, the fastest export growth among all 50 states for 2007.
Before joining the North Dakota Trade Office, Burgum spent three years advising the North Dakota governor and legislature on youth policy and international trade. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from NDSU.
Burgum's presentation is part of NDSU's Innovation Week, scheduled March 3-7. The fifth annual event showcases and encourages students' innovative work. The events are free and open to all NDSU students, faculty, staff and the public.
The presentation is co-sponsored by the Compass Program Foundation and NDSU Research and Technology Park.
NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
