Hazardous material shipping training sessions set

SHARE

Hazardous material shipping and transport training sessions are planned for this month, according to the NDSU Safety Office.

Training is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Prairie room. A second session is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Union Mandan room.

The Department of Transportation requires people involved with receiving, shipping or transporting hazardous material receive safety training every three years.

Training is required if you prepare to ship or actually transport material that has one of the following hazards:

  • Flammable – solvents like hexane, acetone or gasoline
  • Corrosive – acids like sulfuric acid, nitric acid or a base like sodium hydroxide
  • Poisonous – solids, liquids or gases that if inhaled, ingested or absorbed cause harm
  • Infectious – microorganisms like viruses or bacteria that sicken humans or animals
  • Reactive – material capable of giving off poisonous gas if mixed with other chemicals
  • Radioactive – material contained in isotope vials or in analysis instruments

RSVP to Ted Jirik at ted.jirik@ndsu.edu. If you have questions or would like to request a different date for training you may also email Jirik.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
