Tatjana Miljkovic, actuarial sciences adviser and assistant professor of statistics, recently took four graduate students to visit Nodak Mutual Property and Casualty Insurance Co. in Fargo.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss premium and loss reserves calculations outside of the classroom. The students were introduced to deterministic methods used by the insurance company. Students will continue to work on the same topic as part of their projects and develop probabilistic models for loss development and claims severity.
Patrick Duncan, vice president of Shared Services, gave a presentation on pricing and loss development methods used by Nodak. Christopher Lindseth, data specialist, answered students’ questions.
Nodak Mutual has offered one summer internship position to statistics students.
