Finals week is quickly approaching at NDSU and the Main Library again will offer a special activity to help students relieve the stress that can come with a series of anxiety-filled tests.
Therapy dogs are coming back to the Main Library.
Eight dogs from the F-M Obedience School and their handlers are scheduled to be at the Main Library Thursday, May 8, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The dogs first came to campus Dec. 12, as students studied for fall semester finals. The visit was such a success that library staff, along with Amber Bach-Gorman of the NDSU Counseling Center and Mary Ellen Steinhoff of the F-M Dog Obedience School coordinated the effort to bring them back.
“We had about 100 students come to the library to visit the therapy dogs last semester,” said Nicole Mattson, library Webmaster and public relations coordinator. “The students really enjoyed taking a break from their studies to relieve some stress by petting and playing with the dogs. The dogs seem to enjoy themselves, too.”
Other events at the Main Library include:
• Late-night snacks at 11 p.m. on May 6, 11 and 13.
• Puzzles, coloring pages, crosswords and Sudoku available for students.
• A coloring contest with prizes. The contest ends Monday, May 12, at noon.
• A candy fairy during the overnight hours.
The Main Library is scheduled to be open 24/7 beginning Sunday, May 4, at 1 p.m. through Friday, May 16, at 5 p.m. Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in the Fargodome.
NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
