NDSU Distance and Continuing Education adds online certificate programs

SHARE

NDSU Distance and Continuing Education has added three new online certificate programs, all targeted to individuals who work with youth. Two of the new certificate programs are graduate level. The undergraduate certificate is the first of its kind for NDSU.

The new online certificates are:

• Apparel, retail merchandising and design undergraduate certificate

This program provides course-learning experiences, constituting a distinct knowledge base and specific skill set associated with apparel, design, garment construction, retail merchandising and textiles for junior high and high school teachers. These areas represent the core of apparel and textiles education needed to effectively provide a base education by junior high and high school teachers who lack licensure to teach in this area. The program consists of 16 credits and is the first undergraduate certificate program offered by NDSU Distance and Continuing Education. For more information, go to http://ndsu.me/dcearmdugc.

• Youth development graduate certificate

A graduate certificate in youth development will benefit elementary, middle and high school educators, Extension educators and military youth specialists. The program has its roots in Positive Youth Development, which equips teenagers with the skill set necessary for a successful transition into adulthood. The online program consists of 13 credits and offers the option for students to continue their studies through an online Master of Science in Human Development and Family Science: Youth Development option. • Youth program management and evaluation graduate certificate

This certificate focuses on Positive Youth Development through management and evaluation of youth programs. It is an applied field, with professionals who put developmental research and theory into practice in structuring and implementing programs and services for adolescents. The program consists of 13 credits and offers the option for students to continue their studies through an online Master of Science in Human Development and Family Science: Youth Development option. Undergraduate certificates are useful tools for individuals who have a bachelor's degree and want to earn additional credentials or for persons who may not have a bachelor's degree but want to earn undergraduate credentials in a specific area. Graduate certificates are an excellent way for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree to earn graduate-level credentials. Graduate certificates offered through NDSU Distance and Continuing Education are designed so students may transfer credits into a full master’s program when appropriate and if they desire to do so.

These online certificate programs are accepting students for fall semester 2014 and, in some cases, students may begin taking classes as early as summer semester 2014.

NDSU Distance and Continuing Education offers more than 30 online degrees and certificate programs. For more information about these programs, contact NDSU Distance and Continuing Education at ndsu.dce@ndsu.edu, 701-231-7015 or visit www.ndsu.edu/dce/degrees.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation’s top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
