G. Padmanabhan, professor of civil engineering, visited with the environmental engineering faculty at Selcuk University in Konya, Turkey. His visit, June 9 through July 16, was entirely supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Ali Berktay, professor of environmental engineering, Selcuk University, hosted Padmanabhan’s visit.
During his visit, Padmanabhan presented seminars and engaged in discussions on topics of environmental importance to the Konya region. He discussed the region’s current water resources issues with the Selcuk University faculty to develop collaborative research.
Padmanabhan was successful in forging a research team. Two topics were selected for continued collaborative research: 1) An investigation and critical review of the methods of estimation of environmental stream flows to maintain ecological balance, and 2) Spatio-temporal characterization of droughts (meteorological, hydrological, agricultural) in the Konya region of Turkey.
Seminar topics included opportunities for Selcuk University environmental engineering students to pursue graduate studies at NDSU; Current research activities of the NDSU civil and environmental engineering faculty; and total maximum daily load approach to improve the quality of waters in the United States.
NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
