The NDSU chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society is scheduled to hold its 20th annual new member induction ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Prairie Rose room. New members and honorary members will be honored for their accomplishments during the reception.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their respective classes are eligible for membership. Honorary memberships are given to individuals who represent the ideals of Golden Key and encourage academic excellence.

This year's honorary members include Provost Beth Ingram and Jane Schuh, interim dean for the College of Business. Schuh will be the keynote speaker.

In addition, on Oct. 21, NDSU Golden Key hosted Read for the Record events. One of the reading locations was the Herberger’s Court at West Acres. Golden Key members, honorary members and advisers read "Bunny Cakes," by Rosemary Wells, along with guest readers. The guest readers were Andrea Larson, "Valley Today" host; Evie Myers, NDSU vice president for equity, diversity and global outreach; and Lisa Budeau, "Valley Today" anchor. This year, NDSU Golden Key read to 193 children, more than doubling last year’s total. The worldwide total for this year’s event was more than 2,380,000 people.

Read for the Record began in 2006. Each year, the goal is to break the record for reading the same book (with a different book selected each year) to as many children as possible on the designated day; at the same time, Read for the Record works to promote literacy and education for all children. More information about Read for the Record is available at www.jstart.org/campaigns/read-record.

Golden Key has more than 400 chapters in Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Canada, India, the Virgin Islands, Malaysia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
