Doug Zeltinger, admission counselor in the Office of Admission, was asked to participate in the prestigious 2015 National Merit Scholarship Committee. The group met Jan. 25-29 in Evanston, Illinois.

Zeltinger represented NDSU and the state of North Dakota on the committee, which included members from six colleges and eight high schools from across the country.

"I was the first person to represent North Dakota in the 60 years of the program," Zeltinger said. "It was a great opportunity to see how the awarding process is done, and to be able to work with other admission professionals across the United States."

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. All Merit Scholarship recipients are chosen based on abilities, skills and accomplishments. Awards come in three types: National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships and College-sponsored Merit Scholarships.
