The relationship between alcohol and sexual violence will be explored during an important LIVE REAL Mentor program training session scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, at noon in the Memorial Union Arikara Room.
The training is open to all NDSU students, faculty and staff. Participants do not need to have previously attended the LIVE REAL Mentor Basics program.
"This session highlights how essential a cooperative, multi-faceted approach is for addressing the relationship between alcohol and sexual violence,” said Janna Stoskopf, dean of Student Life. "This is a critical community issue. We are all affected by these concerns and we all have the responsibility and ability to take a stand against them."
In addition, an advanced session for LIVE REAL mentors is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at 9 a.m. in the Memorial Union Peace Garden Room. The Level 2 training will give participants an increased understanding of their role in referring individuals for assistance with substance abuse concerns, additional knowledge of the stages of change and an increased confidence in recognizing and referring individuals of concern. The three-hour session will incorporate participant interaction. To register, contact christopher.held@ndsu.edu.
According to William Vandal, University Police chief, sessions like these are important for personal safety and campus security. "In accordance with the need of an academic and social environment that is conducive to intellectual and personal development, the LIVE REAL Mentor program is a perfect example of the importance that education plays in keeping our students safe," he said.
The LIVE REAL Mentor program is among the NDSU Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention Programs. The programs strive to educate students and parents about the risks associated with alcohol use, communicate clear messages about the consequences of underage drinking and offer on-campus, late-night activities.
