Theresa Semmens, chief information security officer, moderated an online webinar and presented at two other information technology conferences.
Semmens moderated “Improving Authentication Security” on April 8, as part of the monthly Identity Access Management Online Webinar Series. The series is sponsored by Internet2’s InCommon Federation and Educause.
At the Educause Security Professionals Conference, May 4-6, in Minneapolis, Semmens partnered with the information security officer from California State University – Channel Islands to present “Mixing It Up: Tips For Successful Mentoring Relationships.” She also presented with the chief information security officer and university records officer from the University of Virginia on “Information Security and Records Management: Are They a Good Marriage?” The session explored the value of integrating information security and records management.
Semmens presented “Sizing and Configuring Human Firewalls” at the seventh annual North Dakota IT Symposium on May 12 in Fargo. She discussed the benefits of providing adequate security training and awareness to fit employee and student needs. She also moderated the presentation “Same ol’ Cyber Security? Cyber Security Strategies and Standards For Today’s Rapid-Fire Business Environment.”
As chief information security officer at NDSU, Semmens provides oversight and coordination for the university’s information security strategy and program, which encompasses security policies, procedures and risk management.
