NDSU’s Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives received a $60,000 gift from North Dakota Farmers Union and Farmers Union Insurance to help expand the center’s mission of cooperative education.
“The partnership between North Dakota Farmers Union and the Burdick Center has been strong, ever since the center was founded in 1992,” said Greg McKee, director of the center. “This important donation will help us expand research and develop the next generation of co-op leaders.”
The Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives promotes education to college-age and high school students, and to the general public through electronic and social media sources. It also conducts research, which cooperatives have used to strengthen their operations and service to members.
“Our financial support will help strengthen the cooperative curriculum that is taught at NDSU and develop curriculum for high school students,” said North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne. “It is important for us that we continue to teach the co-op business model to young people, so we are better able to maintain and build cooperative businesses in North Dakota.”
North Dakota Farmers Union was one of the founding members of the Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives’ endowment and has supported the center by funding projects to develop curriculum on cooperative business for high school students and new employees.
