NDSU athletic director Matt Larsen announced the addition of two new staff members and a re-organization of the athletic department involving existing staff and supervision of NDSU’s 16 varsity sports. Todd Phelps has been named deputy director of athletics, and Clyde Prestwood has been hired as director of compliance. The deputy athletic director replaces the former women’s athletic director position held by Lynn Dorn, who retired in March.
Larsen will continue to oversee NDSU’s football, men’s basketball and softball programs, and four other senior staff members will pick up administrative duties for NDSU’s remaining sports. “What stands out to me most about NDSU is the quality of people we have on staff,” Larsen said. “This re-organization will allow our senior management team to provide daily support and direction to our coaches in operating their respective programs as well as ensuring that our student-athletes receive a positive experience here at NDSU.”
Phelps will lead NDSU's athletic facilities and capital projects along with oversight of equipment services, sports medicine and strength and conditioning. He is the sport supervisor for women's volleyball, women's basketball and baseball.
Colleen Heimstead has been promoted to senior associate athletic director/senior woman administrator from her previous role as associate athletic director. Heimstead will continue to oversee compliance and will be the sport administrator for NDSU’s track and field and cross country programs.
Troy Goergen has been named senior associate athletic director for external operations and will be the sport administrator for women’s soccer, men’s golf and women’s golf.
Jack Maughan, senior associate athletic director for development, will be the sport administrator for wrestling.
Three other promotions include Scott Woken to assistant athletic director for sports medicine, Josh Hemingway to assistant athletic director for business and ticket operations, and Ryan Perreault to director of athletic communications.
