Progress continues on STEM Building, bus loop

SHARE

Rooms on the second and third floors of NDSU’s STEM Building are starting to look more like classrooms and labs. Flooring and white boards have been installed in some second-floor labs. Some third-floor labs now have cabinetry.

Other construction highlights:

  • Workers are finishing the third and final set of steps in the northeast stair tower.
  • First-floor classrooms, including a 300-seat auditorium, are framed.
  • The south side of the first floor now has window frames. The north, east and west sides will be enclosed later.
  • Workers are putting up soffits on the south side of the building.
  • Ceiling grid is installed in several second floor classrooms and labs.

The building is scheduled to be done later this year, with the first classes held there in January 2016.

Bus loop

A bus loop is being created near the STEM Building to replace the bus stop on Administration Avenue. The curb is in and the driving surface will be poured next week.

Buses will start using the loop in January 2016.  Buses on University Drive will enter campus on 13th Ave. N. and follow the loop to exit between the Alba Bales House and Ceres Hall back onto University Drive.

Shifting the bus stop from Administration Avenue to the loop will create an efficient way for more buses to enter and exit campus, eliminate congestion on Administration Avenue and improve safety for people getting on and off the buses.
