NDSU students, faculty and staff are invited to discover campus technologies that can enhance their NDSU experience during TechXploration week, scheduled for Sept. 14-18.
TechXploration Week will offer a series of tech talks, including a keynote presentation by Jeff Boyer, assistant professor of practice in the College of Science and Mathematics. His talk will focus on "Understanding the Intersection of Technology and Active Learning." It is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to noon in the Memorial Union Century Theater.
Shannon Wiedman, a leader of Fargo’s chapter of Girl Develop It, is scheduled to speak about the gender gap in Web and software development. Girl Develop It is a nonprofit organization that exists to provide affordable opportunities for women interested in learning web and software development in a judgmentfree environment. Wiedman's talk is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union Plains Room.
A technology expo is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Plains Room. Participating campus groups will showcase new technologies, along with NDSU favorites for teaching, learning and play. Highlights include a green screen simulation, quadcopter drone and 3D printing.
Other events are scheduled throughout the week, including:
• Barry Hall Media Studio Open House – Monday, Sept. 14, 1-3 p.m., Barry Hall 422 and 424. Explore multimedia resources for faculty who are developing electronic learning materials for online and blended learning environments, flipped classrooms and more.
• Lightning Tech Talks – Monday, Sept. 14, 4-5 p.m., Memorial Union Hidatsa Room . Join graduate students enrolled in AHSS 796: Emerging Trends in Teaching and Learning Online as they demonstrate different educational technologies.
• Math Emporium Open House – Tuesday, Sept. 15, 10-11 a.m., Library, Lower Level. Tour the Math Emporium Learning Center, which is designed to accommodate different learning styles and give students structured practice and feedback in foundational math courses. The center is equipped with 81 learning stations and state-of-the-art math software.
• Researcher¹s Coffee – Wednesday, Sept. 16, 9-10:30 a.m., Memorial Union Arikara Room . Enjoy coffee and hear discussion on resources available to support research at NDSU, including the institutional repository, grant proposal support, management, security and storage services for research.
• Public Records Fundamentals – Wednesday, Sept. 16, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Memorial Union Hidatsa Room. Learn the fundamentals of managing university records. Gain a better understanding of the lifecycle of a record and the purpose of records retention schedules.
• Active Learning Demonstration – Thursday, Sept. 17, 1011 a.m., Dunbar Hall 152. Explore technology in an active learning classroom designed for student-centered teaching and learning.
• IDeaspace Open House – Thursday, Sept. 17, 1-4 p.m., Family Life Center 314 . IDeaspace can accommodate a variety of activities, projects, presentations, events and ideas. The IDeaspace team and other collaborators will be available to showcase technology, tools and toys available to aid in the creation process.
