The 30th annual Expanding Your Horizons is planned for Saturday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. More than 600 young women in junior high school will participate in a series of hands-on workshops that introduce them to new careers and illustrate the importance of science and mathematics. Volunteers are needed to help at the registration table, serve as troubleshooters and assist bus drivers with directions to workshops located off campus.
The day includes 73 workshops led by faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students who serve as role models for the young women. The individual workshops may not feature science or mathematics directly, but the underlying assumption is that if young women persist in their math and science courses as they enter high school, their "horizons are expanded" in their education and career.
