The family of Kevin Brooks and Elizabeth Birmingham, both associate professors of English, will be well represented at the Fargo Film Festival March 3-7.
Brooks worked with a local team to make a documentary film titled “African Soul, American Heart,” that will be shown on Wednesday, March 4, at 4:30 p.m. with a cluster of films about Africa.
Both of Brooks’ children also will have films screened at this year’s festival. Stepdaughter Caity Birmingham’s film, “50 States,” is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, at 8:30 p.m. as part of a group of films showcasing women filmmakers. Ten-year-old son Griffin Birmingham, a fifth-grader, collaborated with seventh-grader Quinn Del Val to write, film and edit a stop-action Lego film called “Hermione’s Family Jewel,” which they will submit to the two-minute film contest for a Friday, March 6, 9:15 p.m. showing.
Hosted by the historic Fargo Theatre, the Fargo Film Festival began in 2001. Films are listed in a number of categories, including animation, documentary feature, documentary short, experimental, narrative feature, narrative short, Native American voices and student.
