The concrete foundations for the leisure and lap pools have been poured as the inside of the Wallman Wellness Center aquatic addition continues to take shape.
The leisure pool includes six seats that will be submerged underwater next to a nearby fire pit area positioned above the water. The leisure pool also includes a jetted vortex pool that can be used for exercise and physical therapy.
The lap pool will go to a depth of 10 1/2 feet and includes step-in access.
Tile floors, which include white, green and yellow highlights, have been installed in the facility’s locker room and wet classroom areas. Wet classroom will be used for activities like scuba instruction and has open access to both pools. Lockers are expected to be in place in July.
A glass partition to separate the leisure and lap pool areas is scheduled to be installed next month. The partition will help keep temperatures in both zones at desired levels.
The full project is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2016-17 school year.
The $11 million project is completely student funded. Students voted in spring 2013 to approve construction and bond financing through student fees. Those fees will increase this fall to support operation of the facility.
The Wallman Wellness Center was built in 2001, with an earlier addition completed in 2007. The center also houses the Student Health Service, Disability Services and Child Care facilities.
