Four NDSU students participated in the Northeast Intercollegiate Sales Competition Nov. 10-11 at Bryant University, in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The national sales competition is an event for students pursuing sales careers.

The competition offers students a tournament-style sales competition, individualized feedback and coaching, networking, skill and leadership building sessions and social media.

Chris Blomstrand, a psychology major from Stillwater, Minnesota, and Shawn Benz, a marketing major from Killdeer, North Dakota, advanced to the competition’s quarterfinal round.

Lane Johnson, a marketing major from Fargo, and Brandon Doering, a marketing major from Fergus Falls, Minnesota, also participated in the competition.

The team was recognized as the “Rookie of the Year” for its performance as a college team in its inaugural year in the competition.

The team was coached by Somnath Banerjee, assistant professor of marketing, and Mike Krush, associate professor of marketing and director of NDSU’s Center for Professional Selling and Sales Technology.

The four-person team is one of the activities sponsored by NDSU’s Center for Professional Selling and Sales Technology. It is the only academic center dedicated to developing the sales skills of North Dakota students within the 11 campuses of the North Dakota University System. The center offers a Certificate in Professional Selling that is available to all NDSU undergraduates.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
