Amber Altstadt and Andy Schlicksup were elected student body president and vice president during Student Government elections April 16-17. Nearly 19 percent of NDSU students cast ballots.
“It was very exciting. We’ve already conducted interviews to choose our executive team,” said Altstadt, from Perham, Minn., who is a junior studying pharmacy and Spanish.
“Andy and I are really eager to get started. We have both had such a wonderful experience at NDSU, and we want to make sure every student has the experience we’ve had,” she said. “We want to stand by the Student Government motto that we are here to leave the university better than when we came.”
Active in Student Government, Altstadt has been the Commissioner of the Congress of Student Organizations, senator for the College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Sciences and a member of the executive team. A member of Students Today Leaders Forever, she also was the co-founder and co-director of NDSU’s Dance Marathon. She is involved in Blue Key National Honor Society and was Miss NDSU 2008.
"I feel honored and privileged,” said Schlicksup, a senior studying political science and criminal justice. “It is a wonderful opportunity to serve students and the community that mean so much to me. I have numerous goals, but just a few would be: improving academic advising, academic recognition and contact with alumni; increasing involvement, computers and wireless internet accessible locations on campus; and being a more eco-friendly institution.”
Originally from Maple Grove, Minn., Schlicksup has served as the Student Senate’s Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences senator. He is a Bison Ambassador and served as president of Interfraternity Council.
Altstadt said the pair wants to create a sustainable impact at NDSU. “We want to put into place changes and programs that will last a long time and be sustainable with the students’ time and money and the environment around us. We want to make sure students feel connected to campus from the moment they decide they are coming here until long after they have graduated.”
