The NDSU College of Business has recognized faculty members Nancy Emerson and Rajani Ganesh-Pillai as the 2017-19 Eisele Teaching Award recipients.

Ganesh-Pillai is an assistant professor in management and marketing. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pune, India, Master of Business Administration degree from Emporia State University and doctorate from the University of Central Florida.

“This is highest teaching award within our college,” said Ganesh-Pillai. “I am grateful to the several faculty who took the time to mentor me and gave me advice to improve my teaching over time. I am always grateful for the opportunity to serve our students and honestly it is not that difficult when I have such amazing students.”

Emerson earned her bachelor of arts degree in business administration and accounting from St. Catherine University and master in accountancy from Northern Illinois University. She is a certified public accountant and a lecturer in accounting at NDSU.

“I think the distinction as an Eisele Teaching Fellow recognizes the passion that I hold for quality teaching, providing a learning environment that reaches more students than simply lecturing, and finding ways to focus on students’ growth outside the classroom in terms of advising, mentoring and encouraging students to polish their soft skills,” said Emerson. “I admire the colleagues who have been awarded this in the past. It’s especially meaningful to know that the award was selected by a group of prior noted teachers of excellence in the College of Business.”

The College of Business established the award in recognition of C. Frederick Eisele, a well-known professor who was instrumental in the lives of his students and the early life of the College of Business. The award is presented to members of the teaching staff who demonstrate the characteristics of an outstanding teacher that are associated with the model established by Eisele. Emerson and Ganesh-Pillai are honored for a two-year term.
