Doctoral student selected for leadership institute

SHARE

Bukola Bakare, an NDSU transportation and logistics doctoral student, was chosen to participate in the Tri-College National Education for Women’s NEW Leadership Development Institute May 17-21 at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Bakare was one of 45 participants chosen from among 109 applicants.

The institute is a residential program that provides leadership training, inspiration and support for women who do not already have extensive leadership experience. Emphasis was placed on recruiting women from groups that have typically been underrepresented voices in the political process, such as women of color, low-income women and women with disabilities.

Participants attended workshops on running for office, public speaking, community organizing, public policy advocacy, and working with the media. They met with women leaders, including state and local officials, women in tribal government, and grassroots activists who discuss running for office, balancing public and private lives, and means of addressing public policy issues.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
