Plant sciences faculty conduct seminars and research in China

Four NDSU Department of Plant Sciences faculty spent two weeks in China in early May. Bingcan Chen, Elias Elias, Richard Horsley and Paul Schwarz visited three universities, presented five seminars and also evaluated the barley and durum Fusarium Head Blight nurseries at the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Nanjing, Jiangsu China.

Chen, Elias, Horsley and Schwarz visited Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China, Southwest University for Nationalities in Chengdu, Sichuan China and Southwest University in Chongqing China, where Chen previously served as a faculty member in the food science department.

During the university visits, Chen, Horsley and Schwarz taught a seminar titled “Introduction to North Dakota State University Programs in Plant Science.” Schwarz taught two seminars: “History of USA Brewing/Craft Beer” and “Food Safety in Malting and Brewing” and Chen taught two seminars: “How to Write a Scientific Paper” and “Modification of Pulse Proteins.”

NDSU has a long history of cooperation with the Jiangnan University Cereal Fermentation program, which also has one of the top food science programs in China.
