Transgender activist and author Janet Mock is scheduled to give the 2017 Laurie J. Loveland presentation, which will be a question-and-answer session, Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in Festival Concert Hall. The talk will kick off the Red River Women’s Studies conference, to be held all day Friday, Oct. 20, hosted by NDSU women’s and gender studies.
Ann Burnett, director of NDSU’s women and gender studies program said, “We are excited to bring in a young feminist woman who will inspire and educate all who come to hear her speak.”
Mock recently released her second book, “Surpassing Certainty,” about her twenties, and she is the author of the New York Times bestseller, “Redefining Realness,” about her childhood. She also is a contributing editor for Marie Claire and a former staff editor of People magazine’s website. Mock earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and her master’ s degree in journalism from New York University.
According to Burnett, Mock’s books will be on sale, and there will be an opportunity for book signing. The event is free to the public.
The conference continues Friday, Oct. 20, at the NDSU McGovern Alumni Center. Registration for the conference is closed, but organizers will accommodate persons interested in attending.
