SHARE

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Emergency Management has received recognition by the Sociologists for Women in Society in their Report Card on Gender Scholarship and Equity in Sociology Departments.

In the notice of recognition sent to the department, professor Shirley A. Hill wrote, “The goal of this report is to recognize departments that excel in creating a climate that is welcoming to women and gender scholars.”

The department has a number of activities supporting the Sociologists for Women in Society. The most recent included the visiting professorship of Elaine Enarson, co-author of "The Gendered Terrain of Disaster: Through Women’s Eyes." She taught a course for the department this past summer titled "Gender Dimensions of Disaster."
