Gary Totten, assistant professor of English, was invited to give a paper presentation at a conference titled "Riding/Writing Across Borders in North American Travelogues and Fiction," on Oct. 16-18, in Vienna, Austria. Waldemar Zacharasiewicz of the Department of English and American Studies at the University of Vienna organized the international colloquium.
Totten's paper, "Geographies of Race and Mobility in Carl Rowan's 'South of Feedom,'" examines the representation of identity, mobility and geographical space in African American travel narratives.
The papers from the colloquium will be published as a book in 2010.
