Stephenson Beck, assistant professor of communication, will have two publications ready for distribution in summer 2010.
He is first author of a chapter, titled “Team Cognition, Communication and Message Interdependence.” His co-author is J. Keyton. The book is titled "Theories of Team Cognition: Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives.” The chapter demonstrates how a communicative perspective is essential to our understanding of team cognition.
The second publication is an article written by Beck and Keyton in Small Group Research. The title of the article is “Examining emotional communication: Laughter in jury deliberations.” The authors problematize laughter from a group communication perspective and analyze its functionality in jury interaction (State of Ohio vs. Mark Ducic). They identified three categories of laughter functions and proposed a new definition of laughter.
