Composer and conductor Dale Warland will visit the NDSU music department for a residency that will culminate with a performance with the NDSU Concert Choir on Sunday, May 2.
Warland has made an impression on choral music both nationally and internationally. He founded the Dale Warland Singers, a vocal ensemble known for its exquisite sound, technical finesse and stylistic range. Additionally, Warland has received highest honors for his work, including the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia’s Individual Leadership in Choral Music Award, Champion of New Music Award from the American Composers Forum and the prestigious American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Victor Herbert Award. He received a Grammy nomination for best choral performance and has received honorary doctorates from the University of Minnesota and Macalester College.
Warland’s work as a conductor has allowed him to work with choirs throughout the world including the Swedish Radio Choir, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble, Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia and Israel’s Cameran Singers.
Warland has been working with NDSU music students on a monthly basis during the spring semester. He conducts choirs, leads master classes and works individually with students in his studio. He has been commissioned to compose a piece for the NDSU Concert Choir that will be performed during the concert on Sunday, May 2, at 2 p.m. in Festival Concert Hall. Tickets for the performance are $5 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.
