The Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials recently held short courses with 22 students participating from government, academia and industry. The week long course, “Fundamentals of Coatings Science,” provided an in-depth look at all aspects of paint and coating systems including binder chemistry, pigments, pigment dispersion, additives and coating properties such as color, rheology, mechanical properties and adhesion.
The second course, “Corrosion Protection by Coatings,” provided practical instruction and hands-on laboratory experience in the corrosion process, how coatings can protect substrates from corrosion and how corrosion can be characterized.
