North Dakota State University officials will close Klai Hall, 711 2nd Ave. N., to faculty, staff and students beginning Friday, Aug. 21, at 8 a.m. The building is expected to reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24 at the latest.
The closure comes at the request of Great Plains Environmental, the environmental consulting company that is overseeing the removal of the material found on Aug. 8 in the area between Richard H. Barry and Klai Halls. Great Plains Environmental plans to begin excavation of the site at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and Klai Hall falls within Great Plain's site safety work zone. Richard H. Barry Hall will not be closed.
Two weeks ago, workers from Asplin Excavating hit a pipe as they were preparing the site to be resurfaced as a parking lot between the two buildings on Second Avenue North.
The assistant director of environmental health and safety with the NDSU Police and Safety Office will be made available to answer any questions.
