Important emergency management planning events are scheduled this week on the NDSU campus. The Ready Campus Summit is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Plains Room. Also, the Emergency Preparedness Expo is slated for Thursday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great room.
The Ready Campus Summit will focus on comprehensive emergency management planning efforts and relationship building within a higher education framework. Topics include assembling a planning team, conducting risk and vulnerability assessment and campus mitigation measures. The event is expected to attract attendees from North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York and Rhode Island.
On Sept. 30, Fargo mayor Dennis Walaker is scheduled to speak at 8:45 a.m., and Lisa K. Dressler, deputy director of emergency preparedness for Minneapolis Emergency Preparedness and Regulatory Services will give the keynote address at 9 a.m.
The 3rd annual Emergency Preparedness Expo, hosted by the NDSU International Association of Emergency Management and NDSU Emergency Management Program, will focus on information and education for hazard awareness and preparedness. Campus and community organizations that work with emergency preparedness and response will participate in the event.
A brief speaker session will begin at 1:15 p.m. and feature local weather and emergency management speakers, including Dave Rogness, Cass County emergency manager, and Greg Gust, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
