The history, philosophy and religious studies department’s November colloquium will feature Frank Varney’s “The Man Grant Didn’t Like: The Destruction of General William S. Rosecrans.” The event will be held Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in the Memorial Union Room of Nations. The discussion will include the role of Rosecrans in the Civil War and the way he has been portrayed.
Varney, assistant professor of history at Dickinson State University, makes speaking appearances on a variety of historical topics. His book, “The Man Grant Didn’t Like: The Destruction of General William S. Rosecrans,” has been accepted for publication. A follow-up volume, “The Men Grant Didn’t Trust: Memoir, Memory, and the American Civil War,” also has been accepted for publication and is in the development stage.
