Emeritus Professor Johnson dies

LaDon Johnson, professor emeritus of animal sciences, died Jan. 3 at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo. He was 76.

Johnson was an assistant county Extension agent in LaMoure County before landing his "dream job" at NDSU where he worked as a livestock specialist with the Extension Service. He retired from the animal and range sciences department in 1995. He received many awards at NDSU, culminating in being named to the North Dakota Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2002.

Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from NDSU in 1956 and his master’s degree in animal science in 1957. He earned his doctorate in animal science from Ohio State University in 1965.

During his college years, Johnson was a member of the National Honor Society and listed in "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.” He was a charter member and first president of the NDSU Farm House.
